Domain DNS lookup

What is DNS Lookup?

DNS lookup is the process of converting a domain name into an IP address. Every website and device on the internet has a unique IP address that identifies its location.

However, humans find it easier to remember domain names such as google.com, rather than the corresponding IP address.

When a user enters a domain name into a web browser, the browser sends a request to a DNS server to resolve the domain name into an IP address. The DNS server responds with the IP address associated with the domain name, allowing the browser to establish a connection to the desired website or device.

DNS lookup is an important function of the internet because it allows users to access websites and devices using easily-remembered domain names, rather than having to remember complex IP addresses.
